New era for equal rights in the workplace

Colleagues,

The General Federation of Trade Unions (GFTU) is hosting a conference on Jan 16th to launch its new Union Modernisation Fund (UMF) project to create a new cohorts of equality reps. The conference is in Hitchen and you should contact Judith Jackson (Head of Educational Services) on 0207 387 2578 to reserve a place.

The GFTU Equality Conference was a great success, but the hard work starts now as we must seek to find ways to integrate equality issues into our trade union and our work place; both may be resistant.

By being active on equality issues we can then say that we genuinely do speak for ALL OUR UNION MEMBERS, which we cannot necessarily say at the moment. We will have to grasp some difficult issues relating to immigration and asylum seekers for example...

Ian,

Sorry I didn't reply sooner to this after we met on the course.

A good course this one, although as you know there are big issues around equality at our workplace.

It will be good to see how the network progresses.

See you soon.
